Highly Qualified.  Jack D. Ballard, a partner in the Houston office of Ballard & Littlefield, LLP, has substantial experience and expertise in business litigation and arbitration matters.  Mr. Ballard graduated from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1985 and has B.A. and M.A. degrees from Texas Christian University.  After law school Mr. Ballard moved to Houston to practice law, becoming a partner at Hutcheson & Grundy LLP, Andrews & Kurth, LLP, and Ogden, Gibson, White & Brooks, LLP.  Mr. Ballard started his own firm in 2001 and, with his longtime colleague Don Littlefield, established Ballard & Littlefield, LLP in 2009.  Mr. Ballard is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Very Experienced.  Throughout his career Mr. Ballard has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to obtain successful results in commercial and employment litigation and arbitration.  His experience has included the following:

  • In his representation of national and regional financial institutions, Mr. Ballard has defended hundreds of lawsuits and arbitration proceedings arising from failed investments and employment issues.
  • Mr. Ballard has handled numerous regulatory matters for financial institution clients.
  • In his representation of a national energy company in a complex contractual lawsuit in state court and in subsequent appeals, Mr. Ballard obtained an unexpected summary judgment, which was affirmed by the Texas Supreme Court.  The suit established an important principle of Texas contract law. 
  • Mr. Ballard defended a class action lawsuit filed against a national credit card company in a small county in central Texas.  If successful the suit would have prevented the company from conducting business within the state.  Mr. Ballard obtained a summary judgment in the trial court.  The decision was affirmed on appeal. 
  • Mr. Ballard served as co-counsel in several cases which established the applicability of the employment-at-will rule to various claims by dismissed employees.  
  • On behalf of a national direct mail firm, Mr. Ballard defended two major lawsuits brought by the Texas Attorney General asserting violations of the Texas Deceptive Sales Practices Act ("DTPA"). 

Highly Regarded.  Mr. Ballard is admitted to practice in the State of Texas, in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, and in the Fifth Circuit.  He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American and Houston Bar Associations.  Mr. Ballard has attained the highest possible rating of "AV" from Martindale Hubbell, indicating preeminent legal ability and the highest standard of ethics. Mr. Ballard is a Contributing Editor of Securities Litigation Commentator, a national publication, and a member of the Texas Association of Trial and Appellate Specialists.
